How can I request data from suppliers if no data connection exists?

Can't find an existing data stream for your supplier in the platform? Here are some recommended best practices on how to make their data easier to import by utilizing the Klappir import Excel templates.

 

 

Requesting data from suppliers if no data connection exists

  1. Download the Import template in Excel. 
  2. In the second tab ("options"), edit the supplier options to only include that supplier. 
    1. Do not edit other fields in the "options" tab. They are pre-filled from the Platform, and changes will not be recognized during the import process, if updated in Excel. 
  3. Send the edited template to the supplier. This will open a dialogue around the data quality you need & drive your suppliers to provide better data.
  4. Request that the supplier send this information to you on a regular basis. This is defined by your personal preference, but we would recommend monthly or quarterly to allow you time to review the data format, if the information is incomplete or incorrect. 

 In our experience, most suppliers typically provide the fields relevant for their data type (ex: fuel description and classification, for fuel suppliers). If they do not have this data already available, they are typically at a strategic disadvantage with their competitors.
 

This simple data structure provides them with the guidance on where to begin. From this perspective, we can encourage suppliers to improve their data quality, thus improving your carbon accounting process.
